Xelement Mens Black and Silver Motorcycle Jacket with Breathable 3 Way Lining a Review
Other reviewers leave some important holes in their reviews, like height/weight/size purchased, so I'll try to be thorough so you can imagine what it's actually like wearing this thing.Fit: First of all, the Large was a perfect fit. I am 6'0", 190lbs and as a wannabe bodybuilder I am relatively muscular, though not huge. After reading all the reviews saying to go a size up (with some reviews saying a Large was snug on a 5'10" 160lb frame!), I wanted to buy an XL... but they were out of stock. With the liners in, the jacket fits quite snugly yet does not restrict movement. The good insulation yet nonrestrictive fit of the liners is perfect for the weather they're meant to be worn in. Taking the liners out adds some wiggle room without making the jacket billowy or baggy, and it still conforms to the shape of my body well. There's a bit of extra room around the stomach, which is perfect if you happen to be my height and weight but with a bit more gut. Although if you're sporting a full on potbelly, best to up a size.
Heat: Not especially hot or cold. The liners will serve well in winter and it's toasty but passable with the liners out.
Let me emphasize something. The shoulders are broad. They're huge. I already have broad shoulders, so I now look like a Space Marine wearing this thing. I've been called robocop already and it only arrived today. Make sure you're happy with that kind of style before you buy - the orientation of the arms in the picture of this product REALLY plays down just how broad the shoulders of the jacket make you look. On the bright side, my helmet looks enormous if I'm wearing regular clothing, and the bulk of this jacket complements it well. Therefore, this style is perfect for me - or anyone else who isn't trying to look slender. It's big, it's aggressive, it's cool.
Protection: Excellent at all points of contact except, notably, the chest and stomach. There is zero armor or padding in those regions, which you might consider a drawback. It'll save your skin if you end up sliding on your stomach somehow but you are sure going to feel every rock on that road.
Quality: Small gripe. One of the liner zippers fell off right out of the box. Then again, it seems irrelevant since I can't for the life of me figure out what the zipper was meant for in the first place. The teeth of it are located in two different spots that are symmetrically placed but don't seem to go together. It does not affect my use of the product in the slightest so I'm not docking points. Other than that, the shoulder armor is made of sturdy material, the padding feels comfortable yet sturdy, and the jacket feels solid. There were no obvious tears or stitching flaws.
It only arrived today so I have no information regarding long-term durability.
Appearance: The stripe across the front that looks white in the picture is really more of a somewhat dark grey. And again, the stance of the torso mannequin in the picture is deceptive.
Overall I would trust this product to perform as intended in a crash, reducing impact damage and protecting me in the event of slides. I enjoy its aggressive style and am generally satisfied with its quality. I would recommend it, especially if you're planning on buying gear that matches its aggressive, sporty and bulky look. But always bear in mind that protective gear does not replace safe riding habits, it complements them. Wearing this jacket or any other solid gear will not save you when you t-bone some inattentive teen driving mom's minivan because you were going 70 in a 40 - you'll just leave behind a really cool-looking corpse.
