I have been sawing wood for years without a concern for personal protective equipment. While buying a new saw the salesman showed me a pair of chaps that had been put to the test by another patron. It's a no-brainer, spend the money and keep them in your saw box or wrapped up with your helmet. Break down and buy the helmet with ear protection and face shield. They are both easy to use and have become more comfortable than not using them. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Woodlandpro Chainsaw Safety Chaps" are high quality item.
