New motorcycle rider. My original plan was to buy armored leather for maximum protection. Two drawbacks to armored leather -- (1) good ones (like the Icon Accelerant, that is a serious jacket) are expensive, and (2) a friend who has one says he can hardly stand to wear it because it's so hot. So I decided to go mesh. My concern was having good protection. After trying some on in a local store I decided to go with this one somewhat arbitrarily. WEATHER
It's a great warm weather jacket. Yesterday it was 88 degrees so I took out the liner and went riding. While moving I felt quite comfortable. Once I stopped and got off the bike I started to sweat right away but the point is how it feels when riding. This morning when I left the house it was 70 degrees so I decided to put the liner in cuz at 55 or 60 MPH that wind can give you a chill even when it's sunny and warm. I was again very comfortable. The liner is a great windbreaker and I like the feeling of extra protection between me and the pavement when the liner is in. By the time I stopped at Starbucks, had my coffee, and left it had warmed up to about 77. While on the bike I was still plenty comfortable. So for me the low 70s is about the break point where I will take out the liner. I can imagine riding in this with the liner down to maybe 50 degrees.

FIT
I'm 5'7" (actually 5'7" and A HALF!) and 160 lbs., have a broad chest and shoulders (relative to my overall size anyway), and a narrow waist. I did my measurements and the charts put me into a medium in a motorcycle jacket. This is my first motorcycle jacket so when it arrived I put it on and I was like "is it supposed to fit like this?" So I called up Motorcycle Superstore (GREAT SELLER) and talked to someone there. They pointed out the following: a riding jacket should fit snugly so that the armor doesn't move around. If you wipe out you don't want your elbow armor sliding around your arm when your elbow hits the ground. It's also supposed to fit short in the torso. When I sit on the bike, put my arms out, and sit forward a bit (as I do on my Ninja; if you're riding a chopper or something it would be different -- but then if you're riding a chopper or harley you're probably too "cool" to protect yourself properly anyway) it fits perfectly. And actually I tighten the mid-arm snaps one extra snap so that the armor stays put around my elbows. If you're an inch or two taller than me and 10-15 lbs heavier you'll probably need the next size up. If you're up to 5'8" and average to thin build the medium is likely your jacket.

BUILD
Someday I'll save up money and buy an armored kevlar jacket from Motoport. Best you can get but will probably cost $700-800. Until then I'll wear this. The zippers are rugged and work smoothly. The stitching seems pretty sturdy. For the money it's excellent.

ARMOR
The armor is made of a stiff and pretty thick foam. There are zippers for easy access to them. I plan to replace all with stiffer CE rated versions.

STYLE
My wife thinks the patches are dorky but I actually kind of dig them and like how I look in it. But my concern is really protection. It has a reflective stripe around the back right beneath the shoulders but it could use more. During my basic rider course they showed a video that demonstrated how much easier it is at dusk to see someone in a bright jacket than a black one. So if I were to do it over I would get the black/grey/white version. It would be cooler in the sun anyway.
